What started as a church basement nursery school in 1964, Red Door has grown into the region’s premier early learning center for young children with nearly 100 enrolled in 10 programs. Red Door students learn shapes, numbers, colors and letters through a curriculum of developmentally appropriate practices that meet Pennsylvania’s early learning standards.
To accommodate expanding enrollment, Red Door purchased a former office building and hired Alloy5 to design a unique learning environment in tune with the school’s educational approach. The 11,000-square-foot, block and steel frame building provided a stable foundation for design creativity and program adaptability.
A new paint scheme, featuring the school’s trademark bright red door, transformed the exterior. Inside, Alloy5 designed a layout around a large central community playroom that serves multiple purposes throughout the day. Other shared facilities include a media library, science center and art studio. Individual classrooms are accented by large windows that flood the spaces with light. Perimeter hallway windows provide more light and an added sense of safety.
