The Challenge

John Covert is affectionately known as the father of Lehigh University track and field, having helped establish the school’s program. During his 25-year career, Covert’s teams won six East Coast Conference championships, numerous ICA4 titles and shattered every school record. To honor the Lehigh Hall of Fame member John Covert, the university planned the first permanent structure at the Goodman track complex and dedicated it to Covert and his wife Carol, a longtime supporter of the program.

Our Approach

The John and Carol Covert Track and Field Pavilion was seen as a progressive step for campus athletic facilities, and a groundbreaking was held during the 2017 Patriot League championships. Alloy5 collaborated with students in an Integrated Learning Experience class who provided initial designs.

Design Solution

Tasked with honoring dedicated members of the Lehigh University community while also adding to the already expansive athletic grounds, the Covert Pavilion matches the style of similar structures on the Goodman Campus. The building features meeting and storage space, a press box, restrooms, and a covered outdoor pavilion.
