To honor the Lehigh Hall of Fame member, the university planned the first permanent structure at the the Goodman track complex and dedicated it to Covert and his wife Carol, a longtime supporter of the program. The John and Carol Covert Track and Field Pavilion was seen as a progressive step for campus athletic facilities and a groundbreaking was held during the 2017 Patriot League championships.

Alloy5 collaborated with students in an Integrated Learning Experience class who provided initial designs. The Covert Pavilion matches the style of similar structures on the Goodman Campus. The building features meeting and storage space, a press box, restrooms and a covered outdoor pavilion.
